There nothing wrong with saving money at Christmas -- the holiday has become little more than a shopping fest for merchants who start bombarding us with holiday music as soon as they reasonably can. But the reason I send Christmas cards (and photos along with them) is because this is the one time of year you can catch up with friends and acquaintances. We live in a culture that promotes isolation and electronic neighborhoods, so I say enough. Even though stamps cost 44 cents, it's still possible to mail a post card for about half the price.

Don't fall for the "green" philosophy behind e-cards -- it's just an excuse for saving money and saving time.

I'm not talking about other religions-Islam, Hinduism, and so forth. They look as oppressive as the next religion to me, but I don't live in them, so I can't really speak to them. I do live inside the Christian religion, and it indeed can be oppressive.

I know it's Christmas! It's one season when our religion feels anything but oppressive, with all the lovely services and general cheerfulness. But as I'll soon note, there are gremlins afoot who are trying to sabotage even this most splendid time of year.

Chidambaram declared on Wednesday that it was necessary to hold wide-ranging consultations with all political parties and groups on the issue of a separate Telangana and promised that the Centre would involve all sections in the process.
Mr. Chidambaram said the situation in Andhra Pradesh had altered after the Centre's statement on December 9 that the process for formation of a separate Telangana State would be initiated. The statement was based on consensus that emerged at an all-party meeting convened by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah two days earlier. Subsequently, many political parties were divided on the issue and it was now important to restore peace and harmony, he observed, apparently referring to the violence in the State since November 29.

The reports quotes chopra saying, "I'm providing this facility for those who can't see it on big screen and watch pirated movies. I just want them to discourage pirated prints. They just need to wait for 12 weeks and after that they can legally download the movie and watch it. Tomorrow if there is a facility to watch movies on mobile phones, the film will be available there but in appropriate time. We can't harm our theatrical business by releasing at DTH."
